Wilmington University student Nicole Brown named Nancy Larson Foundation Scholar

New Castle, DE  (February 15, 2021) – Wilmington University student Nicole Brown has been named a Nancy Larson Foundation Scholar and awarded a $1000 scholarship in recognition of her inspiring leadership, personal narrative, and academic achievement.

The Nancy Larson Foundation proudly supports students across the country majoring in elementary education by awarding scholarships to deserving students each year. Brown is one of eight recipients selected from the many applications received by the Foundation.

In her personal narrative, Nicole shared that the most influential people in her life, besides her parents, were her teachers. “My elementary school teachers set the example for me of what a good teacher should be. I was shy as a child and was encouraged by these teachers to become a leader. They helped me build self-confidence and taught me many valuable lessons. These teachers are a large part of my inspiration for teaching elementary school children. My life experiences also have inspired me to teach. I have a heart for helping, am innovative, and am dedicated to do what I can to help students believe in themselves and reach their goals in learning and in life.”

“Nicole’s determination, passion for teaching, and desire to be a role model for children really impressed our committee,” said Nancy Larson. “She has what it takes to persevere and leave an impact on those in her classroom.”

Larson, a former teacher and curriculum director, has dedicated her life to advancing elementary education. Nancy Larson Science K–5 programs are classroom-tested and prepare children for upper-level science classes and careers in science. The program was written to provide in-depth science content in an easy-to-teach format.
