Five College Students Named Nancy Larson Foundation Scholars

Foundation awards scholarships to hardworking students studying elementary education

Old Lyme, CT – (January 24, 2022) – Five students from across the country have been named Nancy Larson Foundation scholars and each awarded a $1000 scholarship in recognition of their outstanding academic records, dedication to education, and community service.

The Nancy Larson Foundation proudly supports students majoring in elementary education across the country by awarding scholarships to deserving students each year.

The five recipients selected from the hundreds of applications received by the foundation include:

“These students are the type of aspiring teachers that we want to encourage and support. Our classrooms need diverse, intelligent, energetic, young educators that can provide the best possible learning environment for elementary students,” said Nancy Larson, who established the foundation in 2006. Nancy is the author of two nationally successful curriculum programs: Nancy Larson® Science K–5 and Saxon Math K–4.

Juniors, seniors and graduate students who have declared an elementary education major are invited to submit a personal story about what three traits they believe they have that will make them an excellent teacher. Applicants are also asked to include community service activities and experiences they have had working with children.

Larson, an author, former teacher, and curriculum director, has dedicated her life to advancing elementary education. Nancy Larson Science K–5 programs are classroom-tested and prepare children for upper-level science classes and careers in science. The program was written to provide in-depth science content in an easy-to-teach format.
