Fort Hays State University Student
Kristin Luce Named Nancy Larson Foundation Scholar

Hays, KS – Fort Hays State University student Kristin Luce has been named a Nancy Larson Foundation Scholar and awarded a $1000 scholarship in recognition of her inspiring leadership, personal narrative, and academic achievement.

The Nancy Larson Foundation proudly supports students across the country majoring in elementary education by awarding scholarships to deserving students each year. Luce is one of seven recipients selected from the many applications received by the Foundation.

In her personal narrative, Kristin shared, “I have been working the past 15 years as a pediatric social worker where I witnessed a strong decrease in the mental health of children. After being in classrooms, I now believe elementary school teachers are in the best position to change the trajectory of a child’s destiny. The power of an elementary school teacher is insurmountable. As I enter the world of education, I bring with me compassion, creativity, and resilience. I believe a teacher who role models compassion will develop students who are compassionate outside of the classroom and build communities that work together. This produces children with better education and mental health.”

“Kristin’s story of seeing the world through the lens of social work with specific concerns for the mental health of children led her to change course to be a bigger force in the lives of children.  She has exactly the type of life experience that forms the foundation of a wonderful career in education,” remarked Nancy Larson.

Larson, an author,  former teacher, and curriculum director, has dedicated her life to advancing elementary education. Nancy Larson® Science K–5 programs are classroom-tested and prepare children for upper-level science classes and careers in science.
