Kansas State University Student
Hannah Schoonover Named Nancy Larson Foundation Scholar

Manhattan, KS – Kansas State University student Hannah Schoonover has been named a Nancy Larson Foundation Scholar and awarded a $1000 scholarship in recognition of her inspiring leadership, personal narrative, and academic achievement.

The Nancy Larson Foundation proudly supports students across the country majoring in elementary education by awarding scholarships to deserving students each year. Schoonover is one of seven recipients selected from the many applications received by the Foundation.

In her personal narrative, Hannah shared, “From an early age I felt the pull to become a teacher. In high school I tutored five students who had various learning difficulties, such as dyslexia, ADHD, and cerebral palsy. Three of those students were also adopted from Haiti and Colombia and were in the process of learning English. These experiences encouraged me to seriously pursue teaching. I am learning as much as I can about strategies and interventions for students. I am determined to find the best plans for teaching my future students.”

“Hannah’s story of working with many different types of students with different learning styles and finding her passion with them is what I found very inspiring about her.  She has exactly the type of life experience that forms the foundation of a wonderful career in education,” remarked Nancy Larson. “Her desire to work primarily with the more difficult students is so encouraging to me.”
